The Doctors: Food Cure For Gastric Bezoar
The Doctors tackled the issue of diet with a show dedicated completely to making the right food choices. The Doctors revealed foods that can clear the sinuses, cure cold sores and much more. But first, Dr. Travis Stork wondered if anyone had ever heard of a “bezoar.” I have, but only in the pages of Harry Potter!
A gastric bezoar is actually a blockage in the gastric system, which occurs more often in people who have diabetes. It pained Dr. Travis to say it, but soda is actually a great cure for bezoars. Soda enters the body and acts like extra gastric acid, and carbonation helps the blockage to pass. Would you ever imagine that there could be positive effects of soda?

The Doctors discussed the effects of soda on the brain and a potential positive effect of soda drinking.
The Drs: Glucose vs. Fructose
However, don’t get too excited soda drinkers! The Doctors also investigated some of the negative effects of soda, of which there are many. Foods like candy, soda, condiments, salad dressing and even certain yogurts are all very high in fructose. So what’s the difference between glucose and fructose? A recent study has shown that people who ate fructose experienced a lot of activity in the hypothalamus, the brain’s “reward center.” The neurons release too much dopamine, which means that the brain’s reward centers are constantly being stimulated. Therefore, the hypothalamus never receives the signal that you’re full.
Studies such as this one are controversial, however, there’s one stone cold fact that isn’t debatable: countries that use the most high fructose corn syrup in foods have the highest rates of type II diabetes.
The Doctors: Soda and Depression
Dr. Travis used to drink a lot of soda, but he’s since kicked the habit to the curb. I’ve never drank any soda, and now I’m glad that I never acquired a taste for it! A separate study has found that people who drink soda are 30% more likely to develop depression.
