Good Morning America: Does Price Matter?
Oftentimes, we believe if we’re paying more for a product that we’re getting the best results. However, that’s not always the case. After all, Kim Kardashian used a $20 mascara and a $9 lipstick for her recent wedding, items that anyone could buy at a drugstore. So when it comes to nail polish, is more expensive better? Good Morning America had the scoop.
GMA: Luxury Nail Polish
Chanel has luxury nail polish that sells for a little less than $30 a bottle. You would think that a polish at that price would last longer than drug store nail polish, but a recent consumer report showed that some drugstore nail polish lasted longer than designer and luxury brands.
Consumer Reports said that nails painted with Sinful Colors nail polish, a polish that can be purchased for $2 at a drugstore, still looked good after seven days when paired with a base coat and top coat. However, Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color, that sells for $27 a bottle, was paired with Chanel brand base coat and top coat, which adds up to a total of $79. Four out of 10 of the testers said their Chanel polish chipped on the first day.
Good Morning America: Chanel Speaks
Chanel told ABC News that their nail polish is “…designed to find the optimum balance…” of a number of factors, including longevity. However, it seems that they might have missed the mark.
GMA: Salon Nails at Home
So how can you achieve the nail salon look at home? Daisy Lewellyn had some tips. She said you should always use a base coat. After you paint your nails, you should tip them in an ice bath, which helps the nail polish dry faster and locks in the polish. She also recommends moisturizing your nails with cuticle oil to help them keep their shine. These tips will help your nails look great, no matter how expensive or inexpensive the polish you use is.
