Tonight Show: President Obama Chewing Gum
Jimmy Fallon said that President Barack Obama angered some observers who noticed him chewing gum at a recent ceremony commemorating D-Day. “Most people didn’t notice because they were distracted by Biden eating a Tootsie Pop,” he joked.
Fallon also suggested that Obama may need his Nicorette gum so that he does not feel compelled to start another war.
Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said she wants to spend 2014 traveling on her own schedule, and will not announce a decision about a future presidential campaign until 2015. Jimmy Fallon joked that she might stay in the US, visiting primary states like New Hampshire, Iowa, and Florida.
Jimmy Fallon: CIA Twitter Account & Government Joke Tweets
The CIA has joined Twitter, which should creep everyone right out. The agency sent its first message on the social network on June 6, reading, “We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet.”
Fallon shared some other joke tweets from government agencies. For example:
- NSA – Sorry to “bug” you. #NotSorry #WeSeeEverything
- IRS – ”Owe” no we didn’t! Haha, but seriously, you owe us a lot of money.
- Census Bureau – RT if you live in America. #census #done
Tonight Show: Tonalist Belmont Stakes
A horse by the name of Tonalist won the Belmont Stakes on June 7, defeating California Chrome’s attempt to win the Triple Crown. This set the horse’s owner off on a memorable rant, in which he called the winning horse a “coward.”
Prior to the Belmont Stakes, a local news reporter shared the story of what items would be prohibited at the racetrack. She wrote them out on her iPad to illustrate her comments about the restrictions on purse size, among other banned accessories.
Jimmy Fallon compared it to illustrating a news report using an Etch-a-Sketch, which would at least be more fun to watch.
Jimmy Fallon: Miss USA Nia Sanchez & Taylor Burton Mask
Miss Nevada, Nia Sanchez, won the Miss USA Pageant on Sunday, June 8 2014. During the introductions at the start of the program, the contestants let down their masquerade masks to reveal their faces as they announced their names and hometowns. However, Maryland’s Taylor Burton forgot to lower her mask while she was speaking, leaving her face obscured. Jimmy Fallon called her “mystery face” and wondered how long they had to practice that beforehand.
Later in the competition, one of the hosts stumbled over her words and misspoke, saying that she needed to “take a dump.” Fallon also mentioned that Donald Trump owns the Miss USA Pageant, and he showed a fake clip of Trump’s toupee being placed on the winner’s head as a crown.
