Today Show: Moonshine Mom Troy Ball
Her two young sons’ have battle with a rare disorder sparked the idea for Troy Ball to start an unlikely business, Today Show reported.
Troy Ball and her husband Charlie with their three sons moved from Texas ten years ago to save the lives of their two disabled sons Marshall and Colton. Because of the heavy pollen in Texas, the family decided to move to Tennessee.
Harry Smith with NBC News talked with Troy about what she called their “turning point.” She said her son Marshall was rushed to the hospital and stopped breathing in the ambulance about a year before they moved. Now that they’ve been living in Nashville, Tennessee, the family is as healthy as they’ve ever been, including their youngest son Luke.
Today: Troy & Sons Distillers
Troy Ball now makes moonshine through her company Troy & Sons Distillers.
She said she first got the idea when they moved to Nashville and would get jars full of moonshine as housewarming presents. She said she came home one day with a pressure cooker and said to her husband, “I need you to help me convert this to a still and he said to me, ‘you’re nuts!'”
But the small pressure cooker grew into a bull blown distillery where the key ingredient is Crooked Creek corn. Corn from a local farm that is not genetically modified, what they call “old school corn.”
Troy said she thought if she could overcome the obstacles she faced with her sons, she could overcome anything. “I spent 24 hours a day for about 18 years taking care of the boys. It was my job to keep them alive. When it came time to finally have a time to create my business, this was my way of honoring them and making a statement about our lives.”
What a statement that was!
Today Show: Toyota Concert Series Bastille Performs Pompeii
Their debut album Bad Blood was the best seller in the U.K., their first single hit number one and now their second one is on track to do the same.
“To come to America and feel like people like our music, its amazing,” they said.
They performed their single “Pompeii,” which they said is actually about actual Pompeii.
The song started off slow but then quickly picks up beat. It’s a great single to sing along to and I can tell you right now you will be belting out the line “but if you close your eyes” for the rest of the day after listening to it. I’m a fan!
