Today Show: Retail Therapy With Jean Chatzky
Did you know shopping can actually help you with the wintertime blues? It is all about finding the happy medium of not spending too much money, which would make you more depressed, and not spending enough, which would just be a waste of money.
Jean Chatzky said a recent poll found 36 percent of people do the most shopping during the winter months. The key to the retail therapy, according to Chatzky, is buying just enough to make you happy and walking away without spending too much. She suggested buying a few items of cheap makeup for women and she suggested men head over to Brookstone for some kind of item they wouldn’t normally buy.

The Today Show found out retail therapy can help people feel better in the winter months and also learned credit cards are implementing a new surcharge.
As for Chatzky, she said when she needs some retail therapy she heads right for the sweets, in particular, she likes splurging on anything by Chocolate by the Bald Man.
Today Show: New Surcharges On Credit Cards
Starting this Sunday, you may start seeing an extra charge on your credit card bills. According to Chatzky, retailers are tacking on a surcharge, which can be up to four percent, on some items. Although it won’t happen all at once, Chatzky said you will start seeing surcharges tacked on by hotels, taxis, airlines and other commuter services.
Luckily, any time a retailer is going to add this new surcharge they have to put up a sign, which means you should put down the credit card and pick up some cash when shopping there.
