Today Show Take Three: Manti Te’o Fake Girlfriend
Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o has been duped on the internet. The award winning defensive lineman and runner-up for the Heisman Trophy was recently in an online relationship with a woman he had never met. He said the relationship, which lasted about a year, came to end when Te’o found out his girlfriend had been killed in a car crash, or so he thought. Apparently a “catfish,” someone who pretends to be someone else on the internet, took advantage of Te’o and pretended to be his girlfriend and even pretended to die.
Te’o said the news of his fake girlfriend’s death came as a shock and also came at a terrible time in his life, just days after his grandmother passed away. And even more bad news came when Te’o just recently found out his dead girlfriend is actually someone he knows nothing about and is not dead. He had been the victim of a new type of online fraud, committed by people referred to as catfish.

But the Today Show couldn’t believe Te’o would fall for a fake girlfriend on the internet. They even went so far as to say they thought Te’o could have been in on the hoax. Every one of the hosts was perplexed why an intelligent guy such as Te’o would fall in love with a girl he had never met in his entire life. They also speculated Te’o may have been in on the hoax the entire time, trying to get more sympathy for his grandmother dying.
I definitely do not see that as the case. Watch the documentary Catfish, about a young man falling for a woman on the internet who turns out to be someone she really isn’t, to see how this could happen to anyone.
Today Show Take Three: Nicki Minaj vs. Mariah Carey American Idol Premiere
Season 12 of American Idol premiered last night and the bickering between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey started immediately, continuing until the first contestant was standing right in front of them.
Minaj and Carey started arguing about a huge furry hat Minaj brought to the judges table, something that seemed innocent but flared up an already existing feud between the two for a few minutes. Al Roker doesn’t see the show lasting much longer if this continues.
Who wouldn’t agree? The show used to be about amazing singers trying to win a competition to realize their life long dreams, but now the show is completely focused on the judges and the amount of time they spend bickering with each other. As Roker put it, “it is all about mean girls now.”
Today Show Take Three: Toddlers Dress Like Celebrities On Red Carpet
Toddlers are doing tinsel town this year. Photographer Tricia Mezzerouz has taken the entertainment business and shrunken it down a little by dressing up children to mimic the exact poses and outfits of big names celebrities at the Golden Globes. From George Clooney to Anne Hathaway to Halle Berry, Mezzerouz dressed up a number of children to look like A-list celebrities.
Today Show Bonus Take: Woody Geist
The Today Show looked back at the time Al Roker threw the news back to everyone at the studio but accidentally called Willie Geist, Woody. The hosts even made fun of him for a minute for looking so much like Woody from Toy Story.
At least he has a Halloween costume picked out now.
