Today: The Good Wife?
New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has been back in the headlines recently thanks to his racy text messages with another woman, which came after the scandal resulting in Weiner’s congressional resignation a few years ago. His wife Huma Abedin is under scrutiny for standing by her man.

Mara Schiavocampo reported that Abedin is used to weathering the storm in her marriage, which has earned her fans as well as critic. As the country hit croons “Stand By Your Man,” some are questioning whether that is the right move for Abedin.
Is there a point at which you should stop supporting your spouse? Weiner’s congressional resignation in 2011 mostly kept Abedin out of the spotlight, but in this new mayoral race, she has had a more prominent role.
Today: Huma Abedin Harper’s Bazaar
Huma Abedin has appeared in her husband’s campaign videos, and she spoke at a press conference addressing Weiner’s behavior, which has recently come to life. She also contributed an opinion piece for Harper’s Bazaar.
One citizen said she should have more respect for herself, while a woman said she felt that Huma Abedin comes across as strong. I have a hard time scrutinizing someone else’s marriage; you can never know what goes on in another couple’s relationship if you are not a part of it.
Today Show: Gender Role Reversal
What if the roles were reversed? Irin Carmon, an MSNBC.com reporter, suspected that a man in that situation would be criticized and seen as “not enough of a man.” Carmon pointed out that Abedin is being called a doormat by critics, and suspected that the politician’s wife would be criticized no matter what.
Could Huma Abedin have her own motives for staying in the relationship? That’s possible, but again, it’s her marriage and her life, so those are her choices to make.
Today Show: Huma Abedin Victim?
An all-female panel shared their perspectives on the relationship. Rene Syler from Good Enough Mother said she felt Abedin was being portrayed unfairly as a victim, though she is a public figure in terms of the mayoral race.
Abby Huntsman of MSNBC’s The Cycle said it’s easy for people to judge women in this position, but Abedin’s credentials seems to prove that she is an intelligent, successful woman.
Legal analyst Lisa Bloom said their personal lives are their own business, but statements and actions at a press conference are up for debate and discussion. “It’s a form of spousal abuse,” Bloom said.
Today: Anthony Weiner Vs Huma Abedin
Abby Huntsman said the focus should be on Anthony Weiner, who is the candidate for office, and not his wife. “Too often, we focus on members of the political family,” she said.
Bloom suggested that Weiner should have faced the music alone, handling the press conference without relying on his wife for support. She also questioned how much a spouse should put up with in a marriage.
The panelists all had different perspectives on the situation, but I want to know what you think. Leave a comment to tell me what you think about Huma Abedin’s response to her husband’s latest bad behavior.
