Today Show: How The Class Of 2018 Views The World
Willie Geist explained that every year, Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin releases its Mindset List to give people an idea of how the incoming freshman class sees the world. This year, they gave everyone insight into how the class of 2018 views the world around them.
For example, when they see wire-rimmed glasses, they think Harry Potter, not John Lennon. “Press pound” on the phone is now translated as “hit hashtag” and celebrity selfies are much cooler than autographs. Also, the office watercooler is “no longer the office social center” but it’s now the place to fill your water bottle.
“Good feedback” means getting 30 likes on your last Facebook post in a single afternoon and their collection of quarters has always celebrated the U.S. states.
Al Roker said it’s less about the mindset of college students and more about making everyone else feel really old. I have to say, I’m totally in line with the Harry Potter over John Lennon thought process. I even call them “Harry Potter glasses!”
Today: Betty Who “Somebody Loves You”
Jessica Newham is best known to her fans as Betty Who, but no matter what name she goes by, the Australian singer/songwriter is making herself known. Her debut album will drop October 7 and it’s called Take Me When You Go.
When Tamron asked about her name, Betty Who explained that when she was 17 she had been songwriting forever and grew up doing it. She came up with the name Betty Who as a title for a song and thought it sounded cool. She said as she grew up, she realized the name Betty Who made no sense for that song and made “absolute sense” for her.
Tamron said she had serious shoe and hair envy, as Betty Who rocked wedge-style converse shoes, and a rocker-chic white hairstyle. She performed the song “Somebody Loves You” off her upcoming album.
