Today: Shailene Woodley The Fault In Our Stars
John Green, author of The Fault In Our Stars, as well as Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, the stars of the new movie, came by the Today Show to talk about the new movie. The story is about two people who meet in a cancer support group and have to deal with the conflict of falling in love while knowing they’re both dying. Despite the dark subject, Shailene Woodley said that she felt like the movie celebrated life. “It does deal with some pretty heavy subjects, but you don’t leave feeling grief-stricken, you leave with this new sense of profound hope and celebration for what exists,” she said.

John Green said he cried a lot while writing the book and that he’s very proud of the movie they made from the book, because it could’ve easily been made an overly sentimental movie, but it’s very real.

Ansel Elgort said he was very nervous for his role in The Fault In Our Stars because there’s such huge fans of the book and he was really worried about messing it up. Shailene and John both told him he was awesome.
Today: Shailene Woodley Too Old For Role?
Shailene Woodley had to fight for her role in The Fault In Our Stars, because John Green really wanted an actual 16-year-old for the role. So Shailene Woodley went into the audition with baggy clothes, no make-up on, and her hair pulled back.
Today: John Green Cameo
John Green originally had a cameo in The Fault In Our Stars, but it was cut from the film. John Green said it was cut because he was a terrible actor and the cameo was dramatically unnecessary. But they did let him keep his wardrobe, so he was pretty happy about that.
Today: Shailene Woodley Traveling
Shailene Woodley doesn’t have a home, despite being one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. She lives off the land, drinks spring water, she’s voluntarily homeless, and she lives completely out of her suitcases. She has two big bins that she ships from place to place with all of her kitchen utensils and other big stuff. But in her everyday life, she just has a suitcase full of clothes and essentials.
Today: Ansel Elgort Break-Dancing
Ansel Elgort is a really good break dancer and Savannah Guthrie showed a video of him doing some dances. He said he thought it was fun to learn how to do it, but he just likes to use it as a tool to enterain.
