Kathie Lee & Hoda: Giada De Laurentiis Breakfast Recipes
The Today Show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb welcomed celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis onto the set to share a few holiday recipe secrets. Before Giada got started, she handed out strawberry and basil mimosas to the co-hosts, who were dressed in comfy bathrobes for the occasion. Both hosts were big fans after taking their first sip of the red and green-tinged beverage.
Giada De Laurentiis: Panettone French Toast Recipe
The first recipe idea of the day used Panettone, an Italian bread with raisins and oranges inside of it, to make Panettone French Toast. You simply dip slices of the bread into a batter mixture of whipping cream, milk, and sugar (Giada literally dumped them together without measuring) before throwing the pieces onto a grill.
Flip them around, giving each side five minutes of heat, and sprinkle with your favorite toppings. Giada suggested a combination of maple syrup, homemade cinnamon, and powdered sugar. I don’t think you can go wrong there!
A full list of ingredients (including a variety of optional toppings):
– Panettone Bread
– Mascarpone Cheese
– Unsalted Butter
– Whipping Cream
– Powdered Sugar
– Whole Milk
– Eggs
– Sugar
Giada De Laurentiis: Polenta & Chocolate Espresso Recipe
Next up: Giada shunned oatmeal for polenta made with cornmeal, essentially another version of grits.
Add broth and water to polenta in a saucepan. Soon after, add milk, cheese, and butter as if you were preparing oatmeal. Heat the mixture up and it becomes creamy like oatmeal. Simply top the delicious breakfast food with cranberries and bacon or some kind of cheese.
A full list of ingredients:
– Mascarpone Cheese
– Dried Cranberries
– Unsalted Butter
– Parmesan Cheese
– Whole Milk
– Water
– Polenta
Kathie Lee and Hoda were given one last treat: a steaming mug of chocolate espresso with whipped cream. Perfect for the holiday season!
Tony Bennett “The Christmas Song”
As a special treat, the show ended with Tony Bennett performing “The Christmas Song” on the set of The Today Show. It came as no surprise that his most recent recordings have picked up Grammy awards, as he sounded as good as ever. His rendition of the song was a great way to ring in the week before Christmas.
