Kathie Lee & Hoda: Painting Your Home with Genevieve Gorder
Kathie Lee and Hoda explained that a new coat of paint is a great way to make some changes in your home, but what’s tricky is finding the right color and knowing what to do with it.
They welcomed designer and Valspar color expert Genevieve Gorder to share her tips and tricks for giving your home a colorful makeover.

Gorder explained that it can be incredibly overwhelming when it comes to picking the right paint color. She said it’s important to know what colors are trending and what’s coming in in textiles.
She said current trends include charcoals and off-blacks, not beige. She also said that pastels are coming back. She did say that some people may cringe a little when they hear pastels, thinking it’s “a little 1985” but if you do it a bit more subtly and not pastel on top of pastel, it can be “really beautiful”.
Gorder said she is always one for color, saying you should bring it in when you can and pull it back when you can’t.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Home Paint Makeovers
Gorder said that when it comes to dining rooms, they need controversy to stimulate conversation. She showed a before and after of a white dining room that was painted a lighter cranberry color.
She then showed a before and after of a white bedroom that was painted yellow. She said the yellow color gives a bedroom warmth, energy, and joy. She said color can do those things without much money and with just a little time.
She also said that ceilings are often times overlooked, and we tend to not bring color into that area. She suggested bringing a shade 50% lighter than the wall into the ceiling. It’s a really great solution if you have tall ceilings.
Today Show: Valspar Reserve Paint
Gorder is a big fan of Valspar paint, specifically the durable and stain resistant Valspar Reserve paint.
She said with just one coat, it’s a paint that stands up to life. To demonstrate how great this paint is, she drew on a painted wall with marker and then sprayed it with cleaner. The marking came right off. She said this paint is perfect for high traffic areas.
She said that Valspar also allows you to color match objects that you like in order to get the color you’re looking for.
I’ll have to share this great information with my family now that we’re re-doing the main floor of our house!
