Kathie Lee & Hoda: Drop 10 Pounds By Memorial Day
Kathie Lee and Hoda brought on nutrition expert Madelyn Fernstrom to go over some new ways to beat those cravings and drop 10 pounds by Memorial Day.
She said the most common problem women have when trying to stay on a diet is staying as far away as they can from desserts. While desserts are usually looked down upon when dieting, Fernstrom said you can have your cake and eat it too, you just have to do it in moderation.
Desserts On a Diet: All About Moderation
The first piece of advice Fernstrom had was sharing your dessert with numerous people. Say you are at a restaurant and you get a dessert that takes up the entire plate. Fernsstrom said to indulge yourself with one bite and then pass it to the next person. This curbs your cravings and also gets the dessert away from you after your first bite.
If you are the type of person who can not have just a single bite of dessert, Fernstrom suggested eating desserts that are low calorie foods. For example, if you are craving an Oreo, which contains 50 calories in every cookie, Fersntrom suggested snacking on Oreo Crisps because you can eat a lot more before you hit 100 calories.
“Baking” Low Calories Desserts At Home
If you are the type of person who likes to bake desserts, Fernstron suggested adding applesauce or yogurt to your recipes to make them healthier.
If you really love apple pie, microwave an apple slice and top it with some cinnamon. It will taste just like a slice of apple pie without all the calories.
If cake is your dessert of choice, Fernstrom said angel food cake is great because it is low in calories and it tastes great when topped with strawberries or a drizzle of chocolate.
