Bret Baier shared the story of how they found out their son struggled with heart disease.
He said that just hours after his first son was born, the nurse noticed that his color was off and his heart was beating fast. His heart was extremely complex, blood was flowing the wrong way, and there were two holes in his tiny heart. He also had three other congenital defects. He had to have surgery or he wasn’t going to make it.
The good news is that six years and two more heart surgeries later, their son is now living a great, healthy life, and even ran in a 5K for the hospital that saved his life.
Today: Bret Baier Dealing with Heart Disease
Bret and his wife shared that they made the conscious decision that they were going to stay positive and surround their son with love and be the parents he needed them to be.
He said he thought his book could help other people. He wanted to be an inspiration or at least spread awareness of the issue.
As for how to get through dealing with heart disease with your children, he suggested three things. He said to first accept the help you get from family, friends, or anyone else. Second, make sure you’re being healthy yourself. And finally, think about the other end of the story and see that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
