Along with co-producing the TV miniseries The Bible, Roma Downey produced Son Of God, which is now on DVD.
The film stars Diogo Morgado, who Roma said embodied Jesus so well. She said he is so spiritual, kind, and non-judgmental. She said he brought great strength and incredible gentleness to the role. They were looking for someone to be “the lion and the lamb” and he embodied that.
She said the great thing about the film is that people who really didn’t know anything about Jesus had the opportunity to learn all about him, and people who already loved and believed in him had a chance to fall even more in love with him.
Kathie Lee and Hoda pointed out the monumental task it was to take on a film about Jesus. Roma said she knew there would be an audience for it, and they poured their hearts and soul into making it. She said so many people showed up and it is now touching people’s lives all around the world.

Kathie Lee & Hoda: Roma Downey Irish Spring Commercial
Roma also shared a funny story about herself when she first immigrated from Ireland. She said she was broke and out of work, and got a call to audition for a commercial for Irish Spring soap. She thought she was a shoe-in because she was Irish. She said there were gorgeous girls from all over the country, but she was the only Irish person there. When she got home, she called her agent and was told she didn’t get it because she didn’t sound Irish enough!
They found the tape of the woman who did get the role and played the commercial. Roma said, “Listen Irish Spring soap, wherever you are, you lost your chance.”
At the end of the segment, they played a clip of Kathie Lee on an episode of Touched By An Angel.
