The actress and mother is also an author and recently tried her hand at fiction with her new book When It Happens To You: A Novel In Stories. Kathie Lee and Hoda talked with Molly about her new book, being a mother and her daughter.

Kathie Lee & Hoda talked with Molly Ringwald, actress, mother and author of the new book, When It Happens To You, about her book & daughter.
Hoda Kotb said this is the type of book that wraps you in right away. Molly Ringwald said that she has always done fiction and writing short stories on the side. She was learning how to do it and it wasn’t until recently that she felt she got to the point where she reached her own standard. She is really passionate about these characters.
When It Happens To You is short stories combined for a novel, but the characters are all intertwined and connected. The theme is betrayal. It is about betrayal and how we betray others and ourselves.
She said there isn’t one person you can meet who hasn’t been on one side or the other or very often both, so it is a very universal subject. How you get through it and how we are very flawed, but we lean towards the light. Molly said there are a lot of characters in the book and everyone is betraying everyone all over the place.
Molly Ringwald: When It Happens To You On The Big Screen?
Molly Ringwald said she would like to make it into a film and looking into how to adapt it onto the screen. Dmitry Martin is interested in playing one of the roles for the movie.
Molly Ringwald: Her Daughter Wants To Act
Molly Ringwald’s daughter, who is almost nine years old, has the itch to act. Kathie Lee asked if she would be upset if her daughter came up and asked her to be an actress. Molly said she asks her everyday and she tells her no. After she graduates from Stanford or Harvard she can do whatever she wants. She just wants her to get an education first and it will make her a better and more interesting person. It’s a really hard business and there is a lot of rejection and she just wants to protect her kids. If she wants to do it later on, by all means.
