Kathie Lee & Hoda: Mark McGrath Under The Sun Tour
It might have seemed like Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath left music for good after taking on a few game show gigs, getting married, and having a kid, but the rocker always kept music close to his heart. This year, Sugar Ray is linking back up for their Under The Sun Tour.
The Under The Sun Tour is meant to represent some of the best rock music out of the ’90s with artists such as Smash Mouth, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, and Fastball. Last year, Mark McGrath and his friend put the tour together, originally calling it “Summer Land.” While Mark’s friend wanted the tour to take a more hard-rock direction, Mark wanted to include anyone who had a hit in the ’90s.

Not surprisingly, it wasn’t too hard to get this collection of bands together. They were more than happy to go live out their glory days once again in giant venues. As Mark said, seeing fans arm-in-arm, drinking wine coolers, and crying in the crowd while your songs are playing was great. Mark loved hosting game shows, but his heart belong to the stage and playing music on it.
On tour, the song that seems to be in the highest demand is “Fly,” the smash hit off of their 1997 album, Floored. There are people out there that say their children sung that song or that they were engaged to that song. With that kind of public acceptance of a song, you’ve really got a timeless classic on your hands.

Today, Mark is a dad, meaning that he’s cleaned up his act quite a bit. Whereas it used to be a lot of backstage bimbos and bountiful bottles of booze, now it’s baby formula and helping his wife out around the house. Mark hasn’t had a hard time coming to terms with this, though. His three-year-old twins, Lydon Edward and Hartley Grace, are the lights of his life.
