Kathie Lee & Hoda: Laura Dern Interview
Laura Dern is the daughter of Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, but she’s certainly made a name for herself. She’s a Golden Globe winning actress who has been in more than 60 films and TV shows. Now, she is starring as Franny, the mother of a young girl battling cancer in the movie The Fault in Our Stars.
Today Show: Laura Dern “The Fault in Our Stars”
Kathie Lee and Hoda asked Laura Dern if she was at all surprised by the wave of attention the movie “The Fault in Our Stars” was getting. She said that she learned quickly while working on the film, all about the great love and almost phenomenon surrounding John Green and his work.
She said once you read the book, you fall in love as well. She said she’s praying, just as all the fans are, that the film does justice for book. She said that John Green was actually crying more on set than anyone, and that the film is certainly true to the book.
She said that 20 years ago, a story like this would be different because back then, it wasn’t how it is now. Now, one out of three people have cancer and now she has friends who have kids with cancer. Everyone knows this story. She said we’re all trying to find a way to have the conversation about how we live life each day with joy. She said this story is uplifting and joyful.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Laura Dern Working With Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort
When asked about working with Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern said “she’s incredible.” She said she’s asked a lot if she was maternal toward Woodley and responded saying that Woodley is sort-of guiding her through her days, not the other way around.
As for Ansel Elgort, Laura Dern said he’s adorable and is actually a little embarrassed by all the attention he’s getting.
And when she was asked about her own kids, Laura Dern explained that her kids are very musical and artistic. She said her husband is a musician with musician parents and she’s an actor with actor parents so she keeps saying that she wishes someone did something else for a living.
I think Laura Dern seems like the perfect role model not only for her own kids but for other kids and even adults as well.
