Kathie Lee & Hoda: James Patterson “Middle School” + “Invisible”

Kathie Lee & Hoda: James Patterson New Books

Best-selling author James Patterson released two books on the same day, June 23 2014: one adult book and one kids book.

Invisible is his new adult book, and Middle School: Save Rafe is the name of his children’s book. “Today’s the day,” he said.

He explained that his reasoning for releasing both books at the same time was that he was trying to get the message to parents that you shouldn’t forget about your kids. When parents go to the library looking for a book to read and they grab his latest novel, now they can grab one for their kids by the same author.

Jenna shared that she was a 6th grade teacher and always thought his books were great for boys, but Patterson explained that his children’s readers are actually 60% girls.

He also shared that he is giving every 6th grader in New York City one of his Middle School books.

Kathie Lee & Hoda: James Patterson on Making Kids Read

James Patterson is very passionate about wanting kids to read, and it was evident in his interview with Hoda and Jenna.

He said that people should make a rule about kids reading in school. His new children’s book is perfect for school reading. He said the character Rafe has had some trouble in school, but is a really good artist. He said they make a deal that if he goes to a somewhat outward-bound kind-of camp, he may not have to stay back in school.

As for making kids read, he said you really just have to lay down the law. But he said it’s important you get fun books for them that they’ll want to read.

Kathie Lee & Hoda: Invisible Review James Patterson

When talking about his adult book Invisible, James Patterson said it’s the best book he’s done in 20 years, which is saying a lot! He said of course he wants them all to be great, but he thinks this one is his best in a while.

Now excuse me while I run and call my mother, a huge James Patterson fan, and tell her she has to go get his new book!
