Kathie Lee & Hoda: Are Your Friends Good Influences?
Friendships can be very complicated, as Kathie Lee and Hoda know very well. Cosmopolitan executive editor Joyce Chang and Carlin Flora, author of Friendfluence: The Surprising Ways Friends Make Us Who We Are, both sat down with Kathie Lee and Hoda to ask the important question: could you be your best friends’ worst enemy?
Hoda believes that friends should be supportive, but also be truthful. Joyce said that there’s “a fine line” between being honest and being blunt. Carlin agreed that it’s more “how you say it” than what you actually say.

Kathie Lee & Hoda discussed the influence of friends, and Sara Haines tried out the Grouper Social Club.
Hoda illustrated a scenario where your friend is dating a horrible guy, and she’s crying to you for the millionth time about him. What does a good friend say? All the ladies agreed that you should ask her if there’s a pattern when it comes to the men she falls for. Kathie Lee believes that it also depends how many times you’ve had the same conservation.
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Breaking Up With Friends
What about when you realize it’s time to break up with a friend? “Friendship is a two-way street, and you have to be getting something positive from the friendship, too,” Joyce said. Friends can sometimes be competitive, but as Carlin pointed out, it’s pretty obvious when someone actually cares for you. If it’s time to break it off, then do it!

Sara Haines: Grouper Social Club
Later, Sara Haines tested out a brand new social experience, the Grouper Social Club, for her weekly segment “Sara in the City.” With Grouper Social Club, singles are set up for drinks with groups of three friends: three guys, three girls. It’s arranged through Facebook, and as founder Michael Waxman told Sara, anyone can have fun who goes into it with an open mind.
Sara and two friends met three guys from New Jersey for drinks in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan. Everything seemed to be going pretty well, except for one of Sara’s friends, who wasn’t interested in all. Overall, I don’t think the ladies liked the guys very much, even though they were perfectly nice (Sara said she left early). It’s still a great idea, though! Check out Sara’s entire Grouper experience in the video below.
