Kathie Lee & Hoda: Billboard Top 100 Songs Of All Time List
In celebrations of Billboard‘s 55th anniversary, editorial director Bill Werde came on the show to discuss some of the biggest hits of all time in the tally’s history with the Billboard Top 100 Songs Of All Time List. Bill wanted to preface all of the songs that made it on the list made it there solely on math, and not because he thought it was better than another. Factors included the number of weeks it went and how long it spent on the board.

The Billboard Top 100 Songs Of All Time List showcased songs that stayed on the charts for the longest amount of time.
Today, Billboard charts streaming, iTunes, YouTube, and all of the traditional sources, whereas back when it first started, Billboard tracked sales of 45s. Don’t worry, though. Just because artists of today have more resources at their disposal didn’t mean they were given an advantage. The editorial team was carefully to balance the odds.
Today Show: “The Twist” Number One On Billboard Top 100 Songs Of All Time List
Because of rights for music, not all of the songs could be played, so they stuck to the top five, at which LMFAO‘s “Party Rock Anthem” was placed. This song was only number one for six weeks, but it stayed on the charts for a year and two months altogether.

Number four was LeAnn Rimes‘ “How Do I Live,” and what made this entry interesting was the fact that it never actually made it to number one on the charts. The reason it made it on the list, though, was because of how long it stayed on the charts. To date, no song has stayed top 10 in the charts longer than this song.
They were running out of time after speaking about the first two, so number three, “Mack The Knife” by Bobby Darin only received a mention. Number two was “Smooth” by Santana. The number one song on Billboard’s Top 100 list was Chubby Checker‘s “The Twist.”
