The first place Chandra Turner suggested you take your family is to the nation’s capital.
She explained that Washington, D.C. is the “mecca of free-ness” because the Smithsonian alone has 19 free museums. She said said “if you’re broke this summer, go to Washington, D.C.”
She also suggested Raleigh, N.C. as a great place to take your family this summer at little cost. The Museum of Natural Sciences is there and it’s great for kids 3 and up. Turner said they have a butterfly conservatory where butterflies can actually land on you, as well as a dinosaur exhibit. They also have a lot of other great interactive exhibits and it’s all for free!
Today Show: Kelsey Museum of Archaeology Review in Ann Arbor
The next destination that Chandra Turner suggested was Ann Arbor, Michigan.
If you head to Ann Arbor, you can visit the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus and go to the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. She said that museum is better for kids of school age, 5 and up, and has two human mummies as well as animal mummies. And again, the museum is free!
Kathie Lee & Hoda: Saint Louis Zoo Review + Los Angeles Science Center
Chandra Turner also suggested Saint Louis as a destination for your family this summer.
She said the Saint Louis Zoo is one of the few enormous zoos that you can visit for free as long as you arrive within the first hour of the day. The zoo even has 20 live insect exhibits (no thanks!) that includes a live beehive that children can interact with.
She also suggested the Science Center in Los Angeles. She said it’s 400,000 square feet of feet that includes a marine tank where kids can touch and feel marine animals. They also have an earthquake machine that allows you to feel what an earthquake is like.
With great options like these, it’s possible to have a great vacation with your family this summer that won’t break the bank.
