The Voice: Betsy Barta
Betsy Barta is a street performer who started out with bad stage fright. As a kid, Betsy sang proudly at home and then couldn’t perform in front of audiences. Street performing got her over her stage fright. She’s used to singing in front of small crowds on street corners, but now she has to sing for The Voice judges. There is no room for nerves.
Betsy sang a very nice rendition of “Set Fire To The Rain.” Of course, when you sing Adele you have to be really great to make Adele standards. Betsy just couldn’t get to that level. There was nothing wrong with her voice but it was a hard song to own.
My favorite thing is when Adam Levine gets up to hug the contestants. Betsy was breaking down on stage after the constructive criticism and Adam jumped up to console her. Good guy Adam to the rescue.
The Voice: Patrick Dodd
Next up was family man Patrick Dodd. He started touring and playing in a band at 18, but he and his wife had kids to support. He quit music to become a landscaper and pay the bills. He plays in Memphis and has big hopes for The Voice.
Patrick sang “Walking In Memphis.” Immediately, I knew his raspiness had won over Shakira. I was pleasantly surprised that Adam also buzzed in. They both made good pleas for Patrick to choose them, but Team Adam gained another member.
The Voice: Trevor Davis, C. Perkins & Agina Alvarez
With so many people to get through, The Voice didn’t have time to give these three their own segment. Trevor Davis went to Team Blake. Team Shakira claimed C. Perkins. Team Adam got returning singer Agina Alvarez.
