The View: Michael Franti & Spearhead “I’m Alive”
If “Blurred Lines” isn’t your cup of tea, then might I suggest Michael Franti and Spearhead? While Robin Thicke has the controversial summer song, Michael Franti’s music won’t be sparking a controversy. In fact, his music is all about feeling good and kicking back. Pump up his jams from his new album, All People, at your beach party or weekend getaway. It’s sure to loosen you up better than a margarita!
“I’m Alive” is a track that just seems to radiate sunshine and good times. Franti previously had a hit on his hands with “Say Hey,” the catchy tune that will not get out of your head. Franti and his band are so eclectic there is really something for everyone. I love their sound and the way it will pump you up. The message of “I’m Alive” is that everything is OK because you are alive and you have someone that loves you. That makes life worth dancing.
The View: Michael Franti Rap Break
Usually, I hate rap. But Michael Franti’s rap break is really fun. I’ve heard artists compare loves in songs before, but I like that Franti includes Ice-T and Coco. Not only does it rhyme perfectly for the song, but it really adds a sense of fun. Ice-T and Coco are an unusual couple and I think that Franti tries to say that love isn’t perfect all the time. It’s unique and that’s what makes it great.
“You be Bonnie, I’ll be your Clyde
Hop into my car and drive like
Fireworks, we will ignite
Through the San Francisco night
Like John and Yoko
Like Ice-T and Coco
Like Jay-Z, Beyonce
Come be my fiance”
Franti’s energy is infectious. By the end of the performance he was jumping around in his bare feet and singing with all the joy in the world. Get this album, I don’t think you will regret it. All People is now available.
