The View: Meredith Extreme Weight Loss
Meredith never felt like she fit into her adoptive family. At age 18, she outweighed her father by 100 pounds, and was clearly double her sister’ size in all of the pictures they had together. After she contacted Chris Powell and got on Extreme Weight Loss, however, her life changed, and she lost 159 pounds. Now, Meredith feels more at home in her family, and realizes that it was more her than her parents that left her thinking she didn’t fit in. There Meredith Extreme Weight Loss episode was one of the most inspiring stories I have heard in quite some time.
The View: Do Genetics Make You Fat?
It is clear that Meredith has genetics stacked against her where her weight is concerned, which Chris Powell corroborated. However, Chris made a very poignant point in saying that “Genetics loads the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger.” Even if you have genetics that predispose you to obesity, it is your lifestyle choices that will ultimately decide if you are doomed to that fate.
The View: Meredith Doesn’t Know Her Birth Mother
Part of Meredith’s weight problem came from her never knowing who her birth mother was. During the process of losing weight, Meredith reached out to her mother with an official letter, but never heard anything back, which, back in her overweight days, led her to eat more. Today, though, Meredith is at peace with it, and still has hope that her mother may get back to her. Now that she is okay with herself, Meredith is okay with everything else.
Meredith’s “ah-ha” moment that inspired her to lose weight came when she went to college down in Florida – 10 states away from her adoptive family and the life she knew. Now having time and privacy to reflect, Meredith didn’t think she would make it to 25, and she wanted to keep living and become something different, which inspired her to reach out to Chris.
The View: Meredith Ran A Marathon
Chris Powell said that the most inspiring part of Meredith’s tale was that, when they first started working together, Meredith couldn’t run from one lifeguard station to the other. At the end of their year together, Meredith and Chris ran a marathon together. Meredith said that milestone is what made her believe that she can be a much better person and accomplish a lot more than she thought she was capable of while she was overweight.
Now that Meredith has lost all of her weight, she has contacted a plastic surgeon, who will be removing up to four feet of excess skin off of her stomach.
The View: Meredith Reaches Out To Her Birth Mother
Before leaving, Barbara asked Meredith if she wanted to say anything to her birth mother, should she by chance be listening in on the show. Meredith said that she loves who she is, and has a story that has defined who she is today, but there is always that curiosity. Meredith has never looked at someone else and seen a resemblance, and to meet someone in her bloodline would be great.
Meredith’s story is one of the most powerful I have heard in quite some time. Great work, Meredith!
