The View: Natasha Lyonne Orange Is The New Black Review
Natasha Lyonne had her acting career sidetracked after movies like American Pie due to a drug addiction. However, after years of fighting it, Natasha triumphed over her addiction, and is bringing that life experience to her role in Orange Is The New Black, where she plays a prison inmate who, like the protagonist played by Taylor Schilling, landed herself in prison for because of drugs.
Orange Is The New Black is, in Natasha’s opinion, a great way for everyone who watches the show to become more cued in to women’s issues. It also offers a fresh perspective on the traditional prison movie. Whereas most stories take place in men’s prisons and have them shanking each other, this one takes place in a women’s prison where they are all gossiping, which happens to be pretty true to life.
In Orange Is The New Black, Natasha Lyonne’s character, Nicky, is a former drug addict that another inmate helps clean up once she is tossed in prison on drug charges. Given Natasha’s past experience with drug addiction, Natasha seems like a good fit for the role.

Speaking to her own addiction, Natasha said that it was most definitely not a 28-day recovery process. She spent years addicted to heroin, during which time she got in trouble with the law, ended up in the hospital, and all in all had a very hard time.
She said that part of her reason for turning to drugs came from having a hard time dealing with reality and things that were going on in the world, and to come out the other side of her addiction was both a challenge and very relieving.
The View: Natasha Lyonne On Cory Monteith’s Death
With Cory Monteith recently dying because of heroin, Natasha cited it as proof that there is no face of heroin addiction, and that it can happen to anybody. For her, the news really struck home and acted as proof of the sad fact that not everyone comes out the other side of drug addiction alive.
Orange Is The New Black is now playing on Netflix.
The View: Curtis Fields Performs Opposites Attract
Curtis Fields recently got a lot of attention for his performance at the BET Awards, soon after signing a record deal with LA Reid. With just his iPhone as an instrument and his voice to carry his lyrics, Curtis Fields put on a great show performing his song, “Opposites Attract.” I’ve never seen anything quite like this!
