Steve Carell’s most memorable roles include Anchorman and The Office. Now, audiences can see him as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone in a new movie in theaters. What did David Copperfield contribute to the movie?

Steve joined the women at the table for a conversation about this phase of his career. He said that his character, Burt Wonderstone, is “an egomaniacal, awful man” who has become jaded over the course of his life.

Carell has quite the hairdo and healthy glow for his appearance in the movie. But he said he thought he looked like a carrot because of his weekly spray tan.
“It never actually completely dries, and it smells like underarm and burnt rubber,” he said.

Sheryl Underwood compared his character’s hair to Barry Gibb from The Bee Gees. She also liked his costumes in the movie, which included velvet and rhinestones.
He tried to create a composite of Las Vegas performers, and real magicians such as David Copperfield consulted on some of the movie’s scenes and tricks.
Copperfield designed the movie’s Hanging Man trick, which was filmed in one take. The actors can’t reveal how the magic works, as part of their agreement. Carell said that it gave him an appreciation for the work magicians do every night.

Steve Buscemi and Steve Carell were suspended in a giant plastic box for one of the film’s scenes. But apparently no one thought this was out of the ordinary in Las Vegas.
Sheryl Underwood could not stop laughing at clips from the movie, and Carell said that Alan Arkin did some hilarious improv on the set for his death scene.

Now Carell is teaming up with his old friends on the long-awaited Anchorman 2 sequel. He said the script is great, and it feels like the cast was never apart.
His co-stars have included Elizabeth Banks, Tina Fey, Keira Knightley, Julianne Moore, and Anne Hathaway. How does he feel about being a heartthrob?
Carell said he never expected to become a leading man in romantic comedies. He finds his female co-stars “kind, funny, intelligent,” and said they elevate his work, which is very polite.
