The Talk: Bob Newhart
After getting the small stuff out of the way, like, oh, Bob Newhart’s 10th grandchild being born and the celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary (okay, so those things are pretty big deals in Hollywood), they got down to the good stuff. Being a funny guy of The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart fame, it only makes sense that the guy is taking up a role on Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady’s The Big Bang Theory. He came onto the show today to talk about his role and a little about his career.
The Talk: Bob Newhart & The Big Bang Theory
“It was eerie–it really was,” says Bob of returning to a sitcom for this role. Having spent 14 years on the lot filming between eight years with The Bob Newhart Show and six years with Newhart, Bob said the stages were so similar that it was almost like deja vu.
He insisted on it being filmed in front of a live audience because “…that’s the way I grew up. That’s the way I learned.” Said Newhart of shows with all laugh tracks: “I can’t watch shows that are all laugh track,” for which The Talk’s audience (rightfully) applauded.
For anyone who went from watching Cheers to Frasier, they can attest to how much better a live studio audience is. He will be taking on his role on The Big Bang Theory at 8 p.m. May 2 on CBS.
The Talk: Bob Newhart Favorite Episode
Between The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, Bob had a particularly favorite episode. Taking place around Thanksgiving, and while watching a football game at the apartment, the group of friends decides to make a drinking game out of a football game that doesn’t quite go in their favor.
By the time they decided to order Chinese, they were “boxed” as Bob puts it. Since Bob didn’t put it to words so well and I’ve never exactly seen it to do him the favor, take a look at the clip below.
