Legendary actress and singer Olivia Newton-John came on The Talk and the hosts, along with guest co-host Marie Osmond, were all dressed like classic Olivia Newton-John characters. Sheryl Underwood was Olivia in her “Physical” music video, Sara Gilbert was John Travolta’s character in Grease, Marie Osmond was “innocent” Olivia in Grease and Julie Chen was the darker version of the character, and Aisha Tyler was Olivia Newton-John in Xanadu.

“You girls look fantastic. Better than I ever did. I’m flattered and I’m honored and touched by it,” Olivia Newton-John said.

Olivia Newton-John said the rumors about her being hesitant of taking the role in Grease are true. She said she’d made a movie a while before that in England that was a musical and she was very nervous about making a movie that wouldn’t work. She was also nervous about playing a 17-year-old when she was 28 or 29 at the time.

Olivia Newton-John said that John Travolta came to her house to try to convince her to do the film and that was when they first met. She said that they should do a screen test first to make sure they could pull it off and the rest was history.

Olivia Newton-John said that Grease would be a really hard movie to remake, because it has a special energy of the time. But she said she always thought her daughter should play her character. But of the girls out there today, she said it would great to see Taylor Swift as Sandy. She also said Sara Gilbert should play Danny.

Olivia said that her biggest memory of making Xanadu was falling off her skates and breaking her tailbone. She had to be taken to the hospital, but she had to finish the show, so she just iced a lot when they weren’t filming. She said it was dangerous to practice on concrete.

Olivia Newton-John said that when she made “Physical,” she never realized how risque the lyrics were. So she said when they made the music video, she wanted it all to be about exercise to change the message. But it only made it more risque. Sheryl Underwood joked that if she hadn’t made it about exercise, she wouldn’t have had a costume to wear.

Olivia Newton-John’s greatest hits album Magic is rising on the charts and she’ll be playing her songs during her residency at the Flamingo in Las Vegas. In that show, Olivia Newton-John said that fans can expect some of her country music, her old songs from when she started, and all of her big hits. “It’s my life through music,” she said.

She’s actually going to play at the Donny and Marie Theater, named of course after Donny and Marie Osmond. Guest co-host Marie Osmond said it’s great to have her there and it’s one of the last great showrooms in Las Vegas.

Olivia Newton-John said that when she met her husband, he had never seen Grease and he hadn’t even seen it until after they were married. She said she loved that because he loved her for her and didn’t know anything about her career.

The first time he saw the movie, it was after they’d had dinner with John Travolta and they watched the movie on John Travolta’s plane. Her husband told them he thought it was a really good film.
