The Doctors talked to certified nutritionist Deborah Enos, author of Weight a Minute! Transform Your Health In 60 Seconds A Day, who shared tips throughout the hour on how to help cut calories down. The first tip was about Chicago-style pizza. Deborah reminded us that one slice of this pizza has 50 grams of saturated fat. However, Deborah said that there’s no reason to cut out the deep dish pizza permanently.
When making pizza at home, try to cut down on the meat. Every meat you add brings 40 to 100 calories with it per slice. If you’re going to put meat on your pizza, try putting on healthy lean proteins like chicken or ham. Stick to only one type of cheese, too, because four cheese will pulverize your body with four days of saturated fat. Mozzarella is the best bet.
Deborah didn’t say this, but I think the best way to make it healthy is to pile on the veggies. The more veggies, the better. You might still be getting a bunch of saturated fat (because pizza will never be healthy) but at least you’re also getting lots of vitamins and nutrients.
The Doctors: How To Make Coffee Healthier
Deborah Enos said that Mochas usually have 9 packets of sugar. Most coffee shops use liquid sweetener. One pump is one and a quarter packets of sugar. An average espresso drink from a coffee shop is going to be four or five pumps of the sweet stuff. Deborah recommended ordering it with only two pumps.
She also said you should never order your drink iced. Iced drinks are easier to drink, so you’ll gulp it down really fast. If you order it hot, it’ll take you a long while to finish.
The Doctors: How To Slim Down At A Buffet
Deborah Enos said that best way to watch your weight at a buffet is to drink some hot tea or hot coffee about a half hour before going to a buffet. Studies show that hot liquids before a meal curb the appetite.
Also, location is everything. If you sit at least 16 feet away from the food, you’ll eat less. Also, begin with a salad with a bunch of crunchy vegetables. Studies show that if you begin your meal with crunchy food, you’ll get full faster.
You could also avoid the buffet all together. In my opinion, it’s a waste of money unless you’re planning on taking down at least three plates.
