The Doctors: Melatonin & Breast Cancer
Low Melatonin levels can increase a woman’s Breast Cancer risk. According to the American Cancer Society, less than seven hours of sleep each night can increase your risk by 47%.
There’s no winning with sleep. If you sleep less than seven hours, you could get breast cancer. But Sleeping Too Much will cause you to die earlier. Between this and the revelation that Sitting Causes Cancer, we are all doomed.
The Drs: Melatonin Natural Remedies
Natural ways to increase your Melatonin levels include Olive Oil, Tomatoes, Beer, and Wine. Foods containing Tryptophan, such as Turkey, Oatmeal, and Tuna, are also Melatonin Boosters, according to Dr. Kristi Funk of the Pink Lotus Breast Center.
Dr. Travis Stork added that low Melatonin can increase the risk of Prostate Cancer. Melatonin is a hormone produced by a light response, and it fights off cancer causing Free Radicals while you sleep.
People who work overnight, travel frequently, sleep irregularly, or have developmental problems such as autism, you could be at risk for Low Melatonin.
The Doctors: Melatonin Supplement Dangers
If you think you’re at risk for Low Melatonin, you can consider some supplements. But be careful not to overdo it, because you don’t want too much of a hormone in your body either, which creates a domino effect.
Dr. Travis’s advice is you can’t rely on supplements to give you an accurate idea of what your dosage should be. Melatonin can increase Male Breast Size and decrease Sperm Count. Melatonin isn’t good for pregnant women, because it could cause birth defects. It’s also a risk for people taking Blood Thinners.
Dr. Travis said Melatonin Supplements are a regulated prescription medication in Europe. Dr. Jim Sears said he is nervous about the effects on children and teens, since there aren’t long term studies to show the effects in young people. He suggested turning to natural sources instead of supplements.
