The Drs: Terry Fator Throat Exam
The Doctors then moved on to their segment they call “Funny Bone,” where they send comedians to health professionals, teaching that “health is no laughing matter.” They sent ventriloquist, impersonator, and comedian Terry Fator to see if his vocal chords and throat are at risk. In true Terry style, he brought one of his little friends, Winston, with him.
Dr Jerold Boyers, an ear, nose, and throat specialist, talked to Terry, who shared that he does four to five shows a week in Vegas, and then he does two or three more on the road. Dr Boyers said Terry looked good except for some mild redness in the back of his voice box.
Dr Boyers explained that Vegas throat is when a performer is singing in Las Vegas so much more than in other areas when they’re on the road. Dr Boyer also explained that hoarseness is a sign of swelling on the vocal chords, which means he needs to be more careful and rest his voice. Rest is key to avoid nodules.
Terry stressed the importance of frequent visits to your doctor.
