The Doctors: Flambéed Pan Seared Steak With Thyme & Peppercorns Recipe Directions
- The steak should be at room temperature when you start, so be sure to remove the steak from the fridge at least 30 minutes before prepping and cooking
- Heat a medium to large cast-iron skillet over high heat
- Season both sides of the steak with an even amount of salt and pepper
- Mix the thyme, garlic, and peppercorns, then set aside
- When the pan is very hot, add the coconut oil and spices
- Right away, put the steak next to the spices in the pan
- Next, use a basting technique to cover the steak with the coconut oil while cooking, by spooning the oil and spices over the steak as it cooks – repeat several times
- After approximately 3-5 minutes, turn the steak over using tongs
- Turn off the heat, then gently pour the whiskey into the pan
- Use a lighter but stand back, to ignite the liquid in the pan to flambe the steak (the flame will go out on its own)
- Let the steak sit for a few minutes then enjoy
