Dr. Rachael led a segment on The Doctors featuring the Doctor On Demand app, an app that will let you contact a doctor 24/7 over the app. Theresa was concerned about her two-year-old boy’s allergies, so they contacted a board-certified allergist over the app.
The Doctors: Allergy To Vaccines?
When Theresa’s son Nash was six months old, he went to get two vaccines. He broke out in rashes and the doctor thought he had a reaction. Theresa took him to a specialist, where they said they were going to administer the vaccine at the hospital and treat him if he reacted to it. The allergist on the phone, Dr. Tania Elliot, asked if Nash had any difficulty moving his arms or legs or if he had a fever. She also asked about milk or egg allergies.
Since Nash did not have an immediate reaction to the vaccine and the symptoms showed up later, that means that Nash did not have a life-threatening reaction. Dr. Elliot said that they could test the individual components of the vaccines, which include yeast and latex from the syringes. That can be accomplished with a simple skin and blood test.
The Doctors: Anti-Aging Breakthrough
A recent scientific breakthrough has shown that some lucky rats have defied the laws of aging. The scientists in the study fed some mice a compound that increased the naturally occurring substances in the body that’s abundant in our youth. Within a week, a mouse that could be compared to a 60-year-old person had the muscle tone and energy of a twenty-something. This breakthrough surprised even the scientists and could lead to research that could keep us forever young.
“They’ll put me out of business, but that’s okay!” Dr. Andrew Ordon, a plastic surgeon joked. He explained that the aging process is just gradual cell death. They’re found a way to reverse those changes in mice. Dr. Rachael said that it seemed weird to her to change a 60-year-old into a 20-year-old. She said a lot of things could go wrong in that process. Dr. Jim Sears said that since these are naturally occurring substances, it’s possible that there may not be any side effects.
The Doctors: Tips For Staying Younger
One way to try stay younger now is to eat a lot of antioxidants like those found in blueberries and strawberries. It’s also important to make sure you’re getting plenty of exercise.
Dr. Rachael said she tries to sleep on her back so that she’s not mashing her face on the pillow, because that can increase wrinkles.
