The Doctors: Repeatedly Stabbed By Crazed Ex
Julissa Marquez met a nice guy at church who seemed to be polite with all the characteristics of a good guy. But one night, Julissa’s sister received a call from a detective, telling her to rush down to the hospital because Julissa had been brutally attacked. Julissa had told her sister earlier in the day that she had an argument with her ex-boyfriend and wanted nothing to do with him. A little after 7 PM, he knocked on Julissa’s door. She saw him standing naked at her door, and when she tried to close the door on him, he pushed his way in. As she tried to call her pastor for help, he began to beat her.
Julissa’s son’s bedroom door began to open and Julissa screamed at him to close and lock the door, and not come out until she told him to. Julissa’s ex-boyfriend grabbed her, threw her to the ground, and began stabbing her repeatedly in the face, head, and neck, before attempting to choke her, yelling “why don’t you die already?”
Right after Julissa cried out for the Lord to forgive her ex-boyfriend, her pastor pushed him off Julissa and waited for the paramedics. Doctors attempted to count the stab wounds to her eyes, but stopped at 27. They claimed she would never see again and labeled her a “likely” which is “not likely to survive.” When Julissa’s sister had the opportunity to see her in the hospital, Julissa grabbed her hand and asked her to make sure that her son would be taken care of.
The Doctors: Stabbing Survivor Hoping To Regain Sight
Julissa’s sister Jessica joined the show as Dr Travis Stork revealed that Julissa survived the gruesome attack and welcomed her to join the show. Julissa knew it was her son that pulled her through. Shockingly, Julissa decided not to press charges, and shared that her ex-boyfriend was actually diagnosed with Schizophrenia and said “he was sick. He doesn’t need jail time, he needs help. He needs medical attention.”
Julissa also acknowledged that God has been her strength, because she has a lot of faith. Although she survived, she has to wear corrective lenses but has about 30% vision in her right eye. She knew that 30% was a lot compared to 0%, but said it looks as if everything is blurry.
An eye specialist explained that Julissa’s retina was actually completely detached and crumpled like a ball in the back of her eye. Dr Ronald Gentile used advanced techniques to re-attach her retina and restore her vision as much as possible. Dr Gentile acknowledged that Julissa is an incredible person and an inspiration to every doctor who has worked with her.
Give Send Go, a Christian crowdfunding campaign, started a fund for Julissa and donated $1,000 to it. Hairnamics also donated $2,500 to the fund and celebrity chef Andre wanted to make a fresh dinner for Julissa and her son once a week for the next six months. Brian Mech, CEO of eSight, surprised Julissa with glasses specifically designed to restore vision. Julissa put on the glasses and said she could immediately see everyone. She was overwhelmed to finally see Dr Gentile’s face as well.
What did you think about Julissa’s incredible story? Would you ever have been able to forgive someone who brutally attacked you?
