The Drs: Woman Helps Deliver Own Twins
The Doctors said they thought they had seen it all in terms of childbirth, until they heard a new story. As they said, sometimes a cesarean section is necessary either for the health of the mom or the child, even if they mother wanted the most natural birth possible. One mom actually delivered her own twins during a scheduled C-section. After doctors opened her up, the mother of 11 reached into her own belly and lifted her twins out.

The Doctors had Gerri, the mother in the story, on the phone, and she explained that she wanted to make the birth as natural as she could. OB/GYN Dr Thais Aliabadi said that she has heard of this happening, but she doesn’t agree with it. She said there are two big concerns, the first of which is the risk of dropping the baby. She said she can promise that it’s only a matter of time until the mother drops the baby when they’re in that situation. The other issue is that some umbilical cords are very short. This could snap the cord, which could cause a big problem.
The Drs: Aiding In Own C-Section Delivery
Dr Aliabadi supports Gerri’s decision but she said it shouldn’t become a trend. There was a 29-year-old woman who actually heard Gerri’s story and did the same thing, but Dr Aliabadi is strongly against more mothers doing it. Dr Travis Stork said if you’re going to deliver your own baby, you obviously have to do extensive research and understand the risks. The good news is that Gerri has two beautiful little babies.
Dr Aliabadi said there’s a risk of infection because the mother’s hands are entering the sterile area. Even if they’re covered with gloves and cleaned thoroughly, there’s no way of guaranteeing they’re truly sterile. No matter what, they’re just happy that the babies are healthy.
