The Drs TV: Cure Earache with Urine?
Is urine an effective home remedy for ear infections? A viewer heard that a cotton swab dipped in your own urine could heal an ear infection. About 40% of the studio audience thought this might be true.

The Doctors team suggested natural remedies for ear infections, including garlic olive oil and vinegar with alcohol.
Dr Andrew Ordon revealed that this is a myth, so do not try this at home. This old wives’ tale gains traction because urine contains urea, which can have some fungicidal properties. Swimmer’s Ear is usually a combination of fungus and bacteria, but urine is not the answer, because there is such a low concentration of urea.

Dr Travis Stork said he got a bad ear infection while on a whitewater rafting trip in Costa Rica. He mixed rubbing alcohol with vinegar to treat himself on the go, and the treatment was effective over a three-day period.
He can’t say they didn’t warn him. The locals told Dr Stork not to kayak in the polluted river, because of the infection risk. Maybe next time he will listen.
