The Doctors: Why Do Twins Have Different Skin?
The Doctors had dermatologist and Olay spokesperson Dr. Doris Day on the show today to talk about smooth-looking skin. Dr. Doris Day did not explain her name, although I bet she gets asked to a lot. I can only assume her parents purposefully named her after the famous actress and singer or that she married a man with the last name of Day and decided she loved him enough to constantly endure questions like “Like the actress?” every time she says her name.
Anyway, a pair of identical twins wrote into The Doctors to ask why one of them has flawless skin and the other has an uneven skin tone. Dr. Doris Day had an answer for them.
The Doctors: How To Improve Your Skin
How can you improve your skin? Well, The Doctors had some quick tips. First, get your beauty rest. Studies show that new skin cells grow to replace the old ones during sleep. Make sure not to put toxins in your body. Don’t smoke. Make sure to eat plenty of low fat yogurt because it contains Vitamin A which helps the body produce collagen, a protein responsible for the skin’s elasticity. Also, make sure to eat berries, because they are full of antioxidants which help protect against free radicals generated by the sun.
The Doctors: Twins Skin Study
Dr. Doris Day helped design a study with Olay looking at two different skin regimens using 21 sets of identical twins. Two of the sets of twins were on the show to give their thoughts on what happened. Twin research is really useful in the study of aging because the twins are programmed to age in the exact same way.
