The Doctors: Mysterious Skin Cysts
Brian came to The Doctors to talk to Dr. Disgusting, Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, about his mysterious skin condition. However, if you’ve been an astute watcher of The Doctors in the month of May, you’ll know that this condition was no mystery at all. The cysts and acne covering Brian’s back and buttocks bare a striking resemblance to Hidradenitis Suppurativa, a condition featured many times on the show already. But it’s good for The Doctors to offer people help, so let’s find out more about Brian’s condition.
Brian was so concerned with his skin issue, he hadn’t seen a doctor in nearly five years. His skin bumps were inflamed and looked like giant zits. Brian said when he was dating his wife, he had to admit to her what they were. “That was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” he said. Dr. Disgusting was shocked that Brian had never seen a doctor or had any of one of his zits cultured.
The Doctors: What Is Hidradenitis Suppurativa?
Dr. Disgusting sent Brian to dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, who said she thought he had Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Hidradenitis Suppurativa, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. The condition is a bit of a mystery to doctors, in that they don’t know what causes it. But Dr. Sandra Lee wrote him a prescription for an antibiotic that will help him and performed a few lances of his boils.
The Doctors: Living With Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Dr. Sandra Lee said the culture she took confirmed that what Brian had was Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Brian said that the antibiotic has helped his condition and improved it. Dr. Disgusting said that Brian needed to stay on top of what was happening and see his physician on a regular basis. The Doctors sent Brian to a dermatologist in his area, Dr. Vlada Groysman, who agreed to provide Brian treatment for an entire year. Dr. Groysman will provide some laser treatment for Brian to help him with his condition.
