The Doctors: Why Is Texting Addictive
The Doctors tackled the topic of side effects of texting. Why are emails and texts so addictive?
Dr. Lisa Masterson and psychologist Dr. Wendy Walsh tackled the topic, revealing that a recent report discovered that 43% of women have sent an inappropriate text.
The Drs TV: Why Is Text Messaging Addictive?
Dr. Lisa said that the anonymity of not being face to face with your partner might inspire you to be more bold in your communications.
“Do they not understand that there’s a digital copy of it forever and ever in someone’s phone?” Dr. Wendy asked.
Dr. Wendy compared the thrill of texting to the “random interval reward system” of a slot machine. In between the spam, bills, and work messages, inappropriate messages can spice up your day, and the randomness of them can be just as addictive as gambling.
Can Birth Control Cause Depression
An anonymous caller asked The Doctors if taking Birth Control can cause Depression. Dr. Lisa explained that this can happen, though it is a rare side effect. “You see that with the synthetic hormones that are in contraception,” she explained. “You can get Depression if you’re more susceptible to it.”
Dr. Lisa added that Progesterone-only birth control also carries a higher risk of this side effect. You can work with your doctor to find a better birth control solution for you.
Antidepressants Side Effects
Another viewer asked about whether antidepressant medications can cause side effects, and how to deal with them. Dr Lisa said that side effects can lead people to stop taking their medication, which is never recommended without a doctor’s advice.
Dr. Wendy said that changing your environment can improve your mood, especially when it comes to Postpartum Depression.
