The Doctors TV Show discussed the question of Will It Go Away On It Own? One lady wanted to know if recurring bumps in her mouth would go away on their own or not. She had them for so long, that she was sure they would not go away, so The Drs TV Show brought on Dr Sonia Batra to take a look at the Lip Mucoceles and to remove her Oral Cysts once and for all.
The Doctors TV Show: Lip Mucoceles
The Doctors showed the Lip Mucocele on the woman’s lip before Dr Sonia Batra removed it. Dr Batra said that the bump is a Lip Mucocele, which is a mucus cell that is caused by the duct getting disrupted and is often caused by trauma. Usually the Lip Mucoceles or Oral Cysts will go away on their own, but if they do not, you should see your doctor to have them removed. Dr Batra numbed the lady’s lip and then made an elliptical incision to remove all of the Lip Mucocele. She said that there is a gelatinous capsule around the Lip Mucocele, so you want to remove the entire thing including any ducts feeding into it.
The Doctors: How to Remove a Lip Mucocele
After Dr Sonia Batra cut around the entire Lip Mucocele and removed it, she applied a heat source to keep it from bleeding too much. Then she put on two dis-solvable stitches, which just goes to show you how big of a cut she had to make to remove the entire Oral Cyst. So the bottom line is that you should not remove Lip Mucoceles on your own – leave that up to your doctor to do!
