The Drs: Dr. Phil How To Reach Your Goals & Become Who You Want To Be

The Doctors: Dr. Phil Helps Woman With Her Dreams

A woman named Lindsay who had to give up her dream of being a nurse due to pregnancy appeared on The Doctors. She became pregnant during her second year of school and had to drop out. She said that someone in her family recently said they always thought she’d be the one person in the family to accomplish her dreams and that made her really reconsider her options.

Dr. Lisa Masterson said that there are a lot of women who try to balance their careers and being mothers and she thought it was great that Lindsay was trying to find a way to pursue her career, because being a nurse is a great job.

Dr. Phil McGraw, who was a guest on The Doctors, asked her what she’s done to get closer to the goal of being a nurse. She said that she’s been focusing on self-growth and while finances are what’s holding her back, she’s trying to find a way to do it. Dr. Phil said she needed a plan and that she didn’t have one.

What are you dreaming of? Dr. Phil said on The Doctors that some important things for achieving dreams are setting a realistic timeline and being specific.

Dr. Phil: How To Accomplish Your Dreams

Dr. Phil said that in his book, Life Code: New Rules For Winning In the Real World, he has strategies for achieving goals. The first is expressing the goal, in terms of specific steps and behaviors. Lindsay wants an RN degree, so he said she had to break it down.

The next steps were being specific about the goal, setting a timeline she can control and planning a strategy that will get her there. He told her she had to make the plan and create accountability for it.

Dr. Travis Stork said that one of her issues was her finances and he said that they would be able to help her out. Scholarships.com agreed to cover her tuition, her fees and her books for the registered nurse degree program. They also agreed to provide structural assistance by helping her create a plan and stick to it.

Lindsay started crying and couldn’t believe it. Dr. Travis Stork said that when she gets her degree, they would have her back on the show and do a health segment. She said that’d be amazing.
