The Doctors TV Show was focused on the topic of how to Solve Your Biggest Double Dilemmas and one of the “Double Dilemmas” was the issue of having twins (frankly, I would call having twins more of a blessing than a dilemma!). The Drs TV Show brought on a pair of twins named Mandy and Marcie who were conceived in 1975 and their mother found out after having an x-ray because ultrasounds did not exist yet – so they never really knew if they were Identical Twins or Fraternal Twins. They were told that they came from two different sacs but they did not really know if they were identical or not. They always told people that they were Fraternal Twins, but people tended to believe that the girls were Identical Twins. When they were younger, Mandy and Marcie spoke to each other in their own special language, but they do have some differences. One has a dimple on the left and the other has the dimple on the right. They cross their arms and legs differently and their hair also parts in different ways.
The Doctors TV Show: Identical Twins vs Fraternal Twins
Dr Lisa Masterson told Mandy and Marcie the difference between Identical Twins and Fraternal Twins. In the case of Identical Twins, only one egg is fertilized in the mom, but it splits into two and this is called a Mono-Zygotic pregnancy. With Fraternal Twins, you have two different eggs that are fertilized and develop into babies and this is called Di-Zygotic.
The Doctors: DNA Swab Test for Twins
The Doctors did a DNA Swab Test on Mandy and Marcie to see if they are Identical Twins or Fraternal Twins. Michael Baird said that they compare the two DNA Profiles to see if they are the same or not. Identical Twins have the same DNA Profile and Fraternal Twins have two different DNA Profiles. And the results of Mandy and Marcie’s Twin Test was that they are in fact Identical Twins!
