The Doctors TV Show today was on the topic of “What Tests Do I Need” and one lady asked what tests she should ask for before going through an Elective Surgery. The Doctors said that you must keep in mind that an Elective Surgery is just that – an elective. You do not have to do it, so you should avoid it unless you are 100% sure that everything else is right with your health. Here are some things to consider from The Drs TV Show:
The Drs: Elective Surgery Tests
1. Physical Exam and Medical History Review
2. Glucose and Liver Function tests
A new law was passed that requires all patients to have a full physical exam and medical history review before undergoing an elective surgery. Dr Travis Stork said that when a person breaks their leg and needs surgery, they always do an EKG and other tests just to make sure they can withstand the stress of a surgery. If you are going to get an Elective Surgery, the doctor should ask you all about your underlying health conditions. If your doctor does not ask you about your health issues, if you smoke, drink, etc. then you should really find a doctor that practices in a more thorough manner.
