The Doctors: Dr Rachael Ross House Call
When 33-year-old Francine wrote to The Doctors about her embarrassing body odor, Dr. Rachael Ross stepped in for an important house call. Francine described noticing a “fishy” odor this summer, and so much sweating that she would shower up to five times a day.
Dr. Rachael performed a head-to-toe physical exam, and finally found the culprit behind Francine’s body odor. She found a high presence of abnormal cells known as clue cells, which is a sign of a condition known as bacterial vaginosis. Luckily, this common problem is also easy to treat by restoring fluoride balance.
The Drs TV: Cause Of Bacterial Vaginosis

Dr Rachael Ross made a house call to a woman with bacterial vaginosis and explained the best ways to treat this common condition.
Dr. Rachael and Dr. Jennifer Ashton explained what causes bacterial vaginosis. The condition is an overgrowth of the bacteria that normally lives in the vagina, creating an imbalance between good and bad bacteria.
The Doctors: Treating Bacterial Vaginosis
While bacterial vaginosis often causes a bad smell, over-washing is not a good remedy, and may actually make the problem worse. Douching is also not a good idea. In fact, Dr. Ashton called douching “one of the worst things a woman can do.” It creates an imbalance in the vagina, which as The Doctors emphasized, is “a self-cleaning oven.”
Thankfully, Francine’s bacterial vaginosis was treated quickly and easily by Dr. Rachael. She had been avoiding dating and other social situations because of her condition, even though Dr. Rachael said she didn’t actually notice the smell. If you’re experiencing a bad odor—especially if it comes through your clothes—get in touch with your doctor.
