The Drs: Is IV Sedation Safe for Children?
Kristen, 27, was a concerned mom of a four-year-old daughter. Her daughter needed dental work, but she wanted to know if IV sedation is safe for children. For this issue they turned to an expert, Dr. Ashley Hebert. You may know Ashley from The Bachelorette… but did you know she is a dentist?
Dr. Hebert said that IV sedation is okay for children in a safe environment. Sometimes, it’s necessary in young children, because they aren’t old enough to understand the procedures which they are undergoing. However, if a parent like Kristen isn’t comfortable with IV sedation, Dr. Hebert suggested talking with her doctor about alternative options.
The Doctors: One Cup Of Strong Coffee Vs. Several Cups Of Weaker Coffee
Arnold, 57, had a question regarding caffeine. He asked “what’s healthier: one cup of strong coffee, or several cups of weaker coffee?” Dr. Travis Stork responded that it’s really up to the individual. However, people should be watching their overall consumption of caffeine. Most studies suggest that adults limit themselves to 200 or 300 milligrams of caffeine per day, which is 2-4 regular strength cups of coffee.
The Drs: Do Left Handed People Have a Higher Risk Of Heart Disease?
Here’s a piece of information that makes me glad to be a right-handed! Ivan, 65, asked if left handed people have a higher risk of heart disease. Only 10% of the population is left handed, but amazingly, they seem to have a slightly shorter lifespan than right handed people. Additionally, a recent study showed that the prevalance of left handed people in a cardiac rehab unit was 16.7%. If you’re left handed, Dr. Travis recommended paying close attention to your cardiac health.

The Doctors discussed the benefits of fish oil pills, whether left-handed people have a higher risk of heart problems and if IV sedation is safe for children.

The Drs: Benefits Of Fish Oil Pills & Dryer Sheets For Mosquitos
When an audience member said that she was taking fish oil pills, Dr. Jim Sears said that the pills have tons of benefits. Fish oil is good for your hair, skin, heart, brain and more. Dr. Sears thinks that the benefits of fish oil pills make them worth taking, even if some studies claim they have no effect.
Another audience member wondered if dryer sheets can prevent mosquito bites. Dr. Ordon said that researchers at Kansas State University found that dryer sheets actually did prevent bites. However, the same compound is also found in natural products like lavender and basil, so he wouldn’t suggest using dryer sheets, which can be irritating to the skin.
