The Doctors: Sleep Helps Us Recharge Overnight
One of the best ways that we can give ourselves a “medical miracle” is by getting enough sleep. Find out the #1 reason you can’t sleep and get Dr Michael Breus’ review of Advil PM.
Dr. Andrew Ordon said a growth hormone is produced when we sleep that helps you recharge overnight. Getting enough sleep also helpful to our immune systems.
Sleep doctor Michael Breus explained to the The Doctors why getting enough sleep is so important.
#1 Reason You Can’t Sleep: Aches and Pains
Dr. Breus partnered with Pfizer, the maker of Advil PM, and according to a recent survey, aches and pains were cited as the number one reason why people had a difficult time sleeping. Many of these people said that when they woke up, their aches and pains were worse.
Nearly 70% of Americans said that they would give up one vacation day a year to sleep better at night. Dr. Ordon asked the audience who wanted better sleep today, and almost everyone raised their hand.
Dr. Breus said that a variety of things can cause aches and pains – doing a light workout, playing with your kids in the yard or sitting hunched over at your computer all day.
Lack of Sleep: Bags & Dark Circles Under Eyes
Lack of sleep can also affect your appearance. Bags under the eyes and dark circles around the eyes can result from not getting in enough snooze time. While you’re sleeping, collagen plumps up your skin, and without it your appearance can take a toll.
Certain foods can surprisingly help you with your sleep. Bananas have a large amount of Tryptophan, which is the amino acid that helps start the sleeping process. Cherries, especially tart cherries, have the highest amount of melatonin out of any fruit. According to Dr. Breus, melatonin is the “key that starts the engine” for sleep and regulates your sleep cycle.

Dr. Breus said that when he sees patients that complain about not being able to sleep because of pain, he recommends Advil PM. It’s safe to take every night, relieves pain, is non-habit forming and is available over the counter.
He said if people can reduce their pain and sleep better, they will heal better.
