The Doctors: A Look Back + Dr Lisa Masterson
In honor of Throwback Thursday, The Doctors thought they would take a look back at some of their most favorite moments in past seasons. They shared how thankful they are for all the personal relationships they developed and the lives they’ve been able to touch. Dr Lisa Masterson used to be a co-host on the show, and Dr Travis Stork and Dr Andrew Ordon recalled how Dr Lisa always referred to the area between a woman’s legs as a “self cleaning oven.” The Doctors then surprised everyone by announcing that Dr Lisa would be joining them for Throwback Thursday.
Dr Lisa expressed that she has been trying to find her medical superhero powers, trying to combine Eastern and Western medicine in her practice. Dr Lisa shared her favorite new technique: Reiki. She said she loves to transmit energy from the universe and seeing how it can affect your health. As for her favorite memories from the show, she looked back at the time they spent in Haiti and all had to sleep in the same room.
The Doctors: Sunburn Art
The Doctors then moved on to talk about some hot headlines. First, Dr Travis, Dr Drew, and Dr Lisa looked at what is called sunburn art. Sunburn art is where people are using stickers or other things to create designs on their skin as they lay out in the sun. Obviously this act puts you at risk for skin cancer. Dr Travis said if it had to do with a subtle suntan, it would be different than a sunburn. Just one sunburn when you’re younger can greatly increase your risk for skin cancer.
What do you think about sunburn art? Trendy or dangerous?
The Doctors: Burning Your Hair?
They then talked about the new hair trend that has people burning their hair. Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio even showed a picture of the technique being done on her hair, on Instagram. Basically they’re trying to get rid of split ends by splitting hair into sections, twisting it, and then running a flame through it. It also involves a deep conditioning treatment, but taking an open flame to your hair can be incredibly risky. This technique should only be done by a professional.
Would you try this technique to get rid of split ends?
The Doctors: Peeing In The Shower?
Do you consider yourself a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow? The Doctors were wondering whether squatting and peeing the shower could become a new trend, thanks to Paltrow. The actress recently posted in her lifestyle publication “Goop:” “Try peeing in the shower squatting down. When you squat to pee as opposed to sitting up straight on toilet, you automatically engage your pelvic floor and it naturally stretches and tones.”
Dr Lisa said “you have a toilet next to the shower for a reason.” She added that Paltrow is on the right track because women typically don’t pay enough attention to their pelvic floor muscles. She said you actually want to relax when you urinate. Dr Lisa then revealed that her son was in a bad car accident when a drunk driver hit him. He fractured his pelvis and was in the hospital for two weeks and at that point she truly realized how important it is to be able to have a functional bowel movement. Dr Travis added that it’s something we certainly take for granted.
The Doctors: BooTea Causes Pregnancy?
The Doctors reported that there’s a a tea called BooTea that many people take for weight loss and detoxing. Allegedly, several woman were drinking the tea while taking contraception and got pregnant, claiming the tea caused their contraception to fail. Dr Lisa said there are no studies that proved that to be true, but it is known that certain herbs can affect the effectiveness of your birth control pill. It’s very important to truly understand herbs before you take them.
The Doctors reached out to BooTea and they responded by saying ” As is widely known, the contraceptive pill is only 99% effective. With the majority of our customer base being female there will likely be times when a customer falls pregnant during teatox. We work closely with relevant organizations to ensure out packaging meets all legal requirements.”
