The Doctors: Overwhelmed By Cluttered Bedroom
Claire works freelance as a clothing, fashion, and costume designer who feels like she has most things in her life under control. But the one thing is her bedroom, which at that point looked the worst it had ever looked. The floor is barely visible underneath loads of clutter, and she described her closet as a “big dark cave.” Clothes cover her bed entirely, and Claire explained that she didn’t know where to start, so she gave up. Now, she doesn’t even stay in her room anymore, choosing to stay at her boyfriend’s house, since she can’t even find a spot to sleep.
Understandably, the room causes Claire a lot of anxiety, so she was thrilled to take care of it and find a solution. Justin Klosky, an organization expert, stepped into Claire’s apartment, as she explained that he was there to help with her bedroom. Justin immediately noticed the large amount of clothes, before explaining that he would use a team to help Claire figure out what she really wanted, so that she would soon be able to breathe in her own bedroom again.
The Doctors: Tackling Clutter & Getting Organized
Justin, his team, and Claire got started the next day, first by determining what she wanted to keep, and what could be thrown away “never to be seen again.” Claire learned to let go of broken jewelry that she knew she would never eventually fix. Justin then excused Claire for 4-5 hours to finish the job, decorating the room with new furniture that included storage, thanks to IKEA. When Claire finally saw her redesigned room, she was blown away by how big it looked. Her closet looked brand new, and so much more organized!
Claire explained to The Doctors that she felt so much happier in the space, and admitted that her boyfriend had never even seen her bedroom. It just does to show how much a little organization can do for your life in general. Justin explained that the upkeep isn’t complicated, as long as you make sure you’re on top of things both in terms of cleaning and organizing. If you have a room like Claire’s old bedroom, avoid continually dumping items in there. Spend 5-10 minutes a day tackling those items to avoid clutter. If there’s anything you’re not using, donate it, because there’s surely someone out there that could use it.
