The Doctors: Pharmaceutical CEO Arrested
The Doctors reported that the pharmaceutical executive who made headlines for raising the price of an HIV-related drug 5,000% is making news once again, because Martin Shkreli was arrested on securities fraud charges. A lawsuit accuses Shkreli of financial mismanagement. In an interview before his arrest, Shkreli explained that he raised the price of the medication to $750 per tablet because at the original price, there was no profit, but at the new price there was a “reasonable profit” that was “not excessive at all.”
Shkreli was charged with seven counts of fraud in a federal court in Brooklyn, but the charges have nothing to do with the price hike that had people so upset. The charges stem from allegations from federal prosecutors when he was at a bio-tech company he had started. One of the companies he used to work at filed a $65 million civil suit against him as well. Dr Travis Stork said he was glad that Shkreli was arrested, especially if the allegations are true.

The Doctors were actually somewhat pleased to report that Martin Shkreli was arrested, but not because of the price hike for the HIV medicine. (annharkness / Flickr)
The Doctors: Genetics To Blame For Cheating?
The Doctors then moved on to discuss news of scientists reportedly discovering a gene that is found in cheaters, alcoholics, and gamblers, that could help explain infidelity and why it occurs in certain families or individuals. Researchers tested 180 young men and women for a gene called DRD4 that affects the levels of dopamine in your brain. Approximately 1/4 of those who had the gene were more than twice as likely to be unfaithful and when they did cheat, they were more likely to have one-night stands. So could the gene play a role in cheating?
Dr Travis saw it as yet another “get out of jail free card.” Dr Drew Ordon said it’s all about our genetics, but it’s also nature versus nurture. But if you have both the environment and the gene, you could obviously be more prone to cheating or gambling. Dr Rachael Ross reported that in the survey, they asked the men and women that were taking part in the one night stands if they felt good about it. Approximately 80% of men that cheated said they felt good about the one night stands, while 54% of the women felt good afterward. It all comes down to choice!
What do you think? Could genes be to blame for cheating?
The Doctors: Quinceanera Celebration For A Dog
Before the end of the segment, The Doctors pointed out that some parties seem to be a little more extravagant than necessary. Especially one party in particular, that left many wondering if one man went a little too far to celebrate his baby girl’s birthday. He had a band, a cake, and a lot of friends and family, all for his dog. Yes, you read that correctly! A man named Mark Chesworth from Phoenix, Arizona surprised his friends and family with an elaborate quinceanera celebration for his poodle’s birthday. The party was complete with a bounce house, more than 100 people, and 20 dogs!
