Dr. Jennifer Ashton House Call

Nicole told Dr. Ashton that on a scale from one to ten, her pain is a nine. She’s never been able to receive proper treatment from doctors; some procedures, like a hymenotomy performed when she was 16, have somewhat helped, but the pain has never gone away completely.

Nicole visited Dr. Ashton’s office for blood work, cultures, and other testing. Immediately, Dr. Ashton felt optimistic about Nicole’s treatment. On the set, Nicole revealed that she is feeling “relieved” about this condition that has plagued her for so long.

Nicole said that she discovered this problem while trying to use a tampon for the first time as a young girl. Many people don’t take her condition seriously, or think it’s a joke, but she knows that many other women are living with similar problems in silence.

Dr. Ashton explained that there are ways to treat PCOS, and often, treatment received in the doctor’s office is just the beginning. A doctor may give a patient an injected steroid to relieve pain, but she will likely need pelvic physical therapy as well. She said that there are great pelvic physical therapists out there, available to patients just like Nicole.

About Loren DiBlasi

After my childhood dream of achieving Olympic figure skating gold fell through, I moved on to Plan B: become a writer. I've been writing since I can remember, and consider myself lucky to be making a career out of it. I graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 2011, and since that time, I have worked as a writer, editor and blogger. Luckily for this site, my love of TV borders on obsession.
